Resumo (PT):
An over-the-top (OTT) service is defined as “content, a service or an application
that is provided to the end user over the open Internet.”
What is provided can be either content, a service or an application,
meaning that anything provided over the open Internet is an OTT service”.
OTT services include the provision of content and applications such as voice services provided over
the Internet, web-based content (news sites, social media etc.),
search engines, hosting services, email services, instant messaging, video and multimedia content, etc.
Over-the-top (OTT) video is a must-have feature for businesses today,
thanks to the worldwide proliferation of video-enabled consumer devices.
However, bring-your-own-device (BYOD) video is easier said than done.
Enterprises, media, and entertainment companies are increasingly
relying on OVP (online video platform) solutions to manage, publish, and monetize video content in a
scalable manner.
Over-the-top solutions, such as, Video on Demand applications are usually developed from the ground up
for a specific customer. With the proposed solution different builds of the same application can be customized
for a specific client's needs, reusing existing assets and avoiding creating an application from the ground up
whenever a new customer needs this kind of service.
Abstract (EN):
The consumer viewing experience has shifted rapidly
from a time when the only option was watching video
content on one linear screen, in one fixed place, and
at one scheduled time. Today, content offerings have
expanded to multiple screens and are targeted to
viewers in many places and we
are barreling towards a world of personalized viewing
moments that are built for one, on any screen, at any
time and in any way an individual viewer chooses.
The availability of OTT has enabled these changes in
large part by converting content viewing times from
appointment to on-demand, device preferences from
linear to digital, and audience targets from mass to
niche (and ultimately, to the individual).
This rise of OTT has been in many ways inevitable.
As technology has evolved, so too has the demand for
information and entertainment to flow instantaneously.
Video content providers have been challenged to keep
pace as the audiences and content have fragmented as
by-products of these developments.
This project's objective is to create a Video on Demand product
targeted for any kind of potential customer. Therefore it must be possible to divide the service
in different components as well as adding new or different functionalities easily to better suit the needs
of the customer. The main goal is to develop an architecture that allows this flexibility and scability.
