António Manuel Couto Carneiro works as a research and teaching assistant at the Department of Mechanical Engineering of the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Porto. He is a member of the Computational Multi-Scale Modelling of Solids and Structures Research Group (CM2S), focused on studying the constitutive behaviour of complex heterogeneous materials and interfaces at multiple scales, within a multiscale coupled nonlinear finite element framework at large strains. The main scientific areas encompassed by the research of António Carneiro are computational contact mechanics, rough contact and contact computational homogenisation approaches. Scientific investigation on these subjects relies strongly on code design and programming skills, together will a solid knowledge on nonlinear solid mechanics and several branches of mathematics, not to mention tenacity, critical analysis and teamwork.
Teaching is one of the greatest passions of António Carneiro. He loves to arouse curiosity in his students about the unit courses he lectures (practical classes of Solids Mechanics and Finite Element Method) and to foster refined intuition as the shortest path to understanding physical phenomena.
