Hélder P. Oliveira was born in Porto, Portugal, in 1980. He
graduated in Electrical and Computer Engineering at the Faculdade de
Engenharia, Universidade do Porto, Portugal, in 2004. He received the M.Sc.
degree in Automation, Instrumentation and Control from the Faculdade de
Engenharia, Universidade do Porto, Portugal, in 2008. In 2008, he started his Ph.D.
studies at the Faculdade de Engenharia, Universidade do Porto, Portugal.
He is currently working at the Departamento de Engenharia
Informática of the Faculdade de Engenharia of the Universidade do Porto as an
Invited Assistant Professor.
He has been working since 2008 as a researcher at INESC TEC, an
R&D institute affiliated to the Universidade do Porto, in the Visual
Computing and Machine Intelligence Group (VCMI).
Hélder Oliveira was also Project Member of 2 research projects in
the area of breast cancer (one European (FT7) and one FCT
(Foundation of Science and Technology - Portugal).
He was the founded member and coordinator of the Bio-related Image
Processing and Analysis Student’s Group (BioStar) of the Faculdade de
Engenharia, Universidade do Porto.
Since 2007 has co-authored 6 articles on international journals,
all except one with impact factor, with an average value of 3.71, according to
the Journal Citation Reports 2013. He has 2 book chapters and also 32 works in
major refereed international conferences, 13 articles in national refereed
conferences and participated in the creation of 3 public datasets. In total,
these publications have attracted over 175 citations and correspond to an
h-index of 8, using Harzing’s Publish or Perish application on June 22, 2015
His research interests include bio-imaging, image and video
processing, machine learning, artificial intelligence, 3D modelling and mobile
robots.
