Objetivos

Development of New Products and Services course is focused on integration of the different functions of a company in creating a new product .The course aims to:


•Create confidence in your own ability to create a new product.

•Raise awareness of the role of the customer and multiple functions/stakeholders in creating a new product

•Develop the ability to coordinate multiple, interdisciplinary tasks, in order to achieve a common objective.

•Enhance team working skills.

•Study and become familiar with the use of different tools and techniques to develop systematically and methodically innovative products giving careful thought to the role to be played by the various functional expertises,both during the development phase an also on commercial launch and after sales servicing .

The effort involved in this course is equivalent to 6 ECTS credit units (representing a total of 180 hours, dedicated to teamwork on the project and lecture attendance ) .

Métodos de ensino e atividades de aprendizagem

The course adopts a project based learning approach. Teams of 4-6 students, preferably with different backgrounds, will work through an exercise of need identification and development of a product/service that meets that need.
The effort involved in this course is equivalent to 6 ECTS credit units (representing a total of 180 hours, dedicated to teamwork on the project and lecture attendance ) .

GUIDELINES FOR TEAM ASSIGNMENTS
The following guidelines for your team assignments:
1. For each assignment, please provide an executive summary (2 pages maximum) description and a powerpoint presentation
2. Each team should elect a spokesperson for the team
3. It is strongly recommended that the teams produce Progress Reports for the different phases of the project work

PROJECT TEAMS
During the introduction class, the project-generation process will be explained. Basically, you will be asked to form your own small groups, brainstorm one or more product ideas, and converge on one. Typically teams have 4-6 members (depending on the size of the class).


INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY RIGHTS
Rights to any inventions you develop in this course will be dealt with according to regulations of the Faculty of Engineering. The team can “share” their invention with the university , which may be interested in patenting it, in exchange for a percentage of any licensing royalties.
