The main objective of i-DINSystem is to develop an intelligent and dynamic thermal insulation system (DTIS) for adaptive lightweight modular façades, using an air gap (in the interior side of the insulation layer) connected to the exterior through self-adjustable openings linked to a mechanical ventilation system, which will allow to increase convection inside the air gap and heat dissipation.
Work packages:
WP1 - Project management - FEUP - 36 months
WP2 - BES with DTIS - FCIÊNCIA.ID - 6 months + 4 months + 6 months
Development of an innovative numerical model to assess the theoretical impact of a DTIS in lightweight modular facades for decreasing overheating.
WP3 - Geometric optimisation - IPV - 9 months
Definition of a new geometric configuration for an existing LSF façade to include a DTIS. Based on CFD simulations an expectable range for the optimum configuration of the ventilation system components will be established and feasible U-values of the wall for the conductive state under different conditions of use will be targeted.
WP4 - Functional optimisation - FEUP - 10 months + 4 months + 6 months
Development of the functional optimization of the DTIS, using predictive modelling based on climate forecast, allowing adapting to several conditions of use and to be managed automatically. AI algorithms will be selected, trained and tested.
WP5 - Designing - FEUP - 20 months
Designing of the DTIS, comprising the integration of architectural and operational aspects, creation of a digital twin and tools for BIM integration, and evaluation of the wall system sustainability.
WP6 - Performance assessment - FEUP - 20 months
Assessment of the performance of the DTIS in LSF façades (insulation and conductive states and in full usage), using both a laboratory prototype and an in situ full-scale demonstrator.
WP7 - Communication and dissemination - FEUP - 36 months |
