Description of the LA, including a work program focusing on intervention in public policies involved

ARISE was established in 2021, interfacing public entities of 3 Universities - Coimbra, Minho and Porto, through CEMMPRE (https://www.uc.pt/cemmpre/),  ISR-C (https://www.isr.uc.pt), ISISE (https://www.isise.net/site/?module=site&target=home),  SYSTEC (https://systec.fe.up.pt) - and one Higher Education institution - Polytechnic Institute of Leiria, through CDRSP (https://cdrsp.ipleiria.pt), articulating fundamental, applied sciences and technologies in Engineering branches of Civil, Electrical and Computing, Biomedical and Mechanical. Particularly, key goals include 1) training and promotion of highly qualified scientific employment and attract international talent to Portugal, while 2) responding to key public national and international policies through its five intertwined thematic lines:

TL1 - New Materials and Components

TL2 - Advanced Production Systems and Processes

TL3 - Sustainable Energy Systems

TL4 - Intelligent Systems and Robotics

TL5 - Digital Ecosystem, Sustainability, Risk and Management.

Its agenda comprises:

• Fundamental R&D activities of excellence in its intervention areas.
• Development of new products and services, leading to reinforcement in intellectual property.
• Public policies addressing social, environment, and economic challenges for which Production Technologies for Process and Product industries, Habitat, Materials and Components, Information Technologies, Energy, and Health, play a key role with emphasis on the comprehensive Reindustrialization and Decarbonization of the National Economy.
• Active participation in National Economic Recovery Plan aiming at the increase of the value and resilience of the economy.
• Technical and Scientific support to stakeholders, governance, and decision-maker.
• R&D Internationalization of national S&T pivotal to attract talented foreign PhD students and researchers and increase funding from the EU and other research organizations.
• Promote the access of start-ups, and SMEs to advanced technologies, high quality training, and networking.
