Mission:
- Ensure training in Physics, updated and adjusted to the demands of a great School of Engineering, following the best international practices.
- Carry out relevant research and development in Physics Engineering that will advance science and technology.
Description:

The Department of Engineering Physics is responsible for teaching the physics courses included in the various undergraduate programs at FEUP and in the Doctoral Program in Engineering Physics (PRODEF).

There are currently 11 faculty members, all with a Ph.D. in Physics or Engineering Physics, and two staff members (a secretary and a laboratory technician).

The main research areas of the faculty members are:
  • Physics of materials.
  • Plasma physics.
  • Theoretical nuclear physics.
  • Astrophysics.
  • Condensed matter physics.
  • Computational physics.
  • Physics education.
The faculty members are part of several prestigious research groups funded by the Science and Technology Foundation of Portugal. The Department of Engineering Physics also provides services to external Institutions. The Department's infrastructures include a laboratory of Materials for Energy and laboratories used for undergraduate physics courses and the services offered to other groups.
