Objectives
Specific aims
1. Inform the mechanical engineers and related areas about the innovative technique of adhesive bonding;
2. Provide an extensive knowledge about the technology of adhesive bonding;
3. Increase the application of adhesive bonding in the Portuguese industry.
Learning outcomes
1. Know the different types of adhesives;
2. Know how to select adhesives for different applications;
3. Know how to prepare, manufacture and design adhesive joints;
4. Demonstrate knowledge in the use of adhesives in the industry.
Learning outcomes and competences
The student will have the theory and practice to design structural adhesive joints.

Program
The course will cover theoretical and practical aspects. References are made about the most important theories, data of adhesives available on the market, methods of surface preparation and indication of the most common international standards. It is a course that covers in detail the preparation, manufacturing and design of adhesive joints appropriate to the requirements of their applications. Three case studies important to Portuguese industry will be addressed in order to illustrate the transfer of technology to the practice.
