Objectives
The objective of this curricular unit consists essentially in the design of a thesis plan that conducts to a relevant PhD thesis in Digital Media
Learning outcomes and competences
At the end of this course, students should be able to:
- Analyze and select a specific research subject;
- Perform research work, focused in specific subjects;
- Identify the main bibliography, as well as the relevant Researchers and respective groups;
- Perform a critical synthesis of the above mentioned information in a State-of-the-art Report;
- Identify and state an hypothesis, as well as the main questions of the research;
- Clearly state the methods and methodologies, as well as to establish the thesis plan leading to an innovative solution for the proposed subject/problem

Teaching methods and learning activities
Tutorial guidance. Reading and analysis of scientific articles and other relevant literature in the Digital Media, in addition to conducting research work leading to the elaboration of the thesis plan, in close articulation with the advisors.
At the end of the semester the thesis plan is presented and evaluated by a jury composed by the members the accompanying group and a member of the PDMD Scientific Committee.

Calculation formula of final grade
The evaluation will take place in a workshop in January and will be assessed by members of the Scientific Committee of the programme, taking into consideration the presentation and the report of the thesis project.
Grades below 16 will have to revise the thesis project taking into consideration the comments of the evaluators, before submitting it for validation by the monitoring group.
A monitoring group will be created for each student, composed of the supervisors and two other teachers or PhD researchers. At least one of these two must be external to the universities that are part of the PDMD.
