The overall goal of this curricular unit presents to each student is to:
Develop the set of methodological skills that will enable them to identify a topic within their field of study in the area of Occupational Health and Ergonomics and simultaneously define the specific objectives of the research.
The specific objectives of the course for each student are::
This Curricular Unit (CU) addresses the issues of Occupational Health and Ergonomics, including Biomechanics, leading students in an integrated, holistic and systemic perspective. The focus is on reinforcing the scientific component of the knowledge acquisition process, promoting in-depth development in each student's specific research areas. Tutorial guidance, together with the overall coordination of the CU, ensures that the CU's objectives are aligned with those of the thesis, guaranteeing the application of scientific concepts with adherence to the occupational conditions in focus in the respective research project. Thus, students are encouraged to integrate the scientific knowledge of their thesis project from an Occupational Health and Ergonomics perspective, consolidating their preparation for future research. The theoretical component, taught by the lecturers, is adapted to each student during tutorial support, guaranteeing academic and scientific rigour.
Advanced Studies in Occupational Health and Ergonomics applied to the study of the workplace and assessment of the risk of occupational injuries and diseases, study of biomechanical and clinical experimental techniques and definition of scientifically based methodologies for analysing cases.
Systematic search of bibliography on a subject related to analysing a workstation or the prevalence of musculoskeletal injuries in a given profession and methodologies for studying the problem.
Specific quality criteria for publications in the field of Occupational Health and Ergonomics.
Under the guidance of the UC lecturer and a supervisor, each student must search for, select and analyse scientific information within the scope of the UC themes related to their thesis research topic.
The student starts from a general work plan defined in conjunction with their supervisor, orientated towards the thesis project. This course combines this plan with the programme and objectives of the course. This makes it possible to integrate knowledge of Occupational Health and Ergonomics into the thesis project being prepared by the student and also into the future thesis topic.
The theoretical component is ensured by the UC lecturers during tutorial supervision, within the UC's quality standards.
At the end, students must submit a report in the form of an article for public presentation and discussion.
