Objectives

The aim of this curricular unit is to provide students with an integrated overall view of the most common concepts,
techniques and strategies used in Asset Management. A decision support system for maintenance is presented in
order to allow students to solve the main maintenance management problems and to help them make the best
decisions in the scope of Asset Management.

Learning outcomes and competences

At the end of this course unit student are expected to be able to use the different tools presented throughout the
curricular unit in decision making to support maintenance management. In particular, students are expected to be able
to choose the best quantitative reliability, optimisation and other appropriate techniques. In addition, they should be
able to make a decision regarding the best planned maintenance strategies based on the acquired calculation tools.

Teaching methods and learning activities

The concepts and tecniques are introduced through problems and case studies. Throughout the course some software maintenance-related packages are also presented. Computers, "datashow" and white board are used for teaching support. Two invited talks will take place on “Equipment replacement” and “Total Productive Maintenance”.
