Objectives

The participation of young graduates in research and innovation projects within research units has an undeniable formative value and works as an opportunity to acquire relevant skills for future professional careers. In the last 2 years, a new curriculum management tool has taken on a fundamental role with regard to the processes for evaluating funding awarded by the largest Portuguese financial support agency, the Foundation for Science and Technology. Framed within the concept of scientific citizenship (CiênciaID), CiênciaVitae, the national science curriculum management system, is a central element in the ecosystem of information management on scientific and technological activity, as well as a support tool for the modernization of administrative processes supported by a CV. The development of the platform respects the best practices and is based on the PTCRIS standard (https://ptcris.pt/sobre-o-ptcris/apresentacao/), being integrated with various systems and national and international identifiers. Additionally, since the RCAAP (Open Access Scientific Repositories of Portugal) is an integral part of the science management ecosystem, the importance of its integration with the other systems that make up the same ecosystem, namely the CiênciaVitae, should be mentioned.

This training aims to make young graduates aware of a highly relevant curricular tool for the national scientific system, providing them with additional skills that are important for the development of their professional career. The main objective of this curricular unit is that participants can create their curriculum in the CiênciaVitae format and, with the guidelines provided, can compete for individual competitions for doctoral scholarships at FCT or others, successfully, realizing how the transmission of the CV is done on the platform. In addition, the import of databases such as SCOPUS or ORCID and the availability of publications in sigarra will be addressed to ensure open access to them.

Learning outcomes and competences

Students will be provided with technical knowledge about the proper completion of a scientific curriculum. They are expected to acquire knowledge about how information is integrated into the platform, about import mechanisms and automatic completion of curricular data, ensuring the principle of reusing information, in direct articulation with CiênciaID and FCT's funding programs. Additionally, it is also intended to provide students with information about open  access data standards and specific knowledge to ensure open access.

Program

1. Introduction: Concepts about ethics in research and open access, presentation of the PTCris platform, importance of the CV in competitive calls and candidate evaluation;
2. Creation/update of ORCID and import via SCOPUS: search for authors in Scopus, association of several Scopus ID or request for association of articles poorly attributed to the author, creation of ORCID and its importance, update of ORCID via SCOPUS;
3. Creation of Ciência ID and FCTsig interface: Creation of Ciencia ID, association of Ciência ID with J (FCTsig), association key;
4. Ciência Vitae – Personal data and education: import of information via FCTsig, importance of the Resume, correct way to present education and affiliation;
5. Ciência Vitae - Import of projects and publications via ORCID: import and synchronization of information with ORCID of projects and publications. Activities and distinctions;
6. Ciência Vitae – Access and permissions: privacy settings and public CV, CV export to pdf, grant access to entities for calls, revoke access;
7. Rules and analysis of the CiênciaVitae Guide in FCT calls: CienciaVitae guide complementary to the call application guide; CV permissions and access rules; collection of data via API (dismissed information), time for editing the CV and access to data by the evaluation entity, early revocation and its consequences;
8. Open access data: What is open access data, available platforms for open access data, identifiers and Creative Commons licenses;
9. Management of publications in Authenticus and Sigarra: importing publications to Authenticus via ORCID, importing from Authenticus to Sigarra, creating publications in Sigarra;
10. Open Repository of the University of Porto and RCAAP: deposit of publications in the Repository, via Sigarra, importance of the embargo periods and type of document allowed for deposit.

Teaching methods and learning activities

The main methodology is learning based on exposition of contents with exemplary exercises. Students will be given the opportunity to acquire knowledge about how information is integrated into the CiênciaVitae platform, the import and automatic filling mechanisms of curricular data, ensuring the principle of information reuse, in direct articulation with CiênciaID and the FCT funding programs. They will also be given the opportunity to learn about the process of inserting a publication in sigarra with migration to RCAAP. The evaluation will be carried out through a case study: preparation of the student's CV. It will be evaluated if the CV was carried out in accordance with the exposed learnings.

Evaluation Type

Distributed evaluation without final exam

Assessment Components

Designation Weight (%)
Trabalho prático ou de projeto 90,00
Participação presencial 10,00
Total: 100,00

Amount of time allocated to each course unit

Designation Time (hours)
Elaboração de projeto 20,00
Estudo autónomo 6,50
Frequência das aulas 14,00
Total: 40,50

Eligibility for exams

At most 25 % of absences according to current regulations in FEUP.

Calculation formula of final grade

Final grade is carried out on a scale of 0 to 20 values based on the following formula:

CF = 0,9 x CE + 0,1 x AS, where

CE - Evaluation of a case study: elaboration of the personal CiênciaVitae with additional information on the proposed case study;

AS - Assiduity to the classrooms

Approval is given with a final grade equal to or greater than 10 values.

Classification improvement

The students who want to improve their classification may present a new case study in accordance with the instructions provided by the class teachers.
