The objective of this curricular unit, which shall be concluded in one semester, consists essentially in the completion of preliminary studies related to the chosen thesis topic to be further developed in subsequent years and terminates with the presentation of the thesis program.

Definition of the objectives of the thesis
Preparation of the state of the art relative to the theme of the thesis
Development of preliminary studies of the thesis subject (e.g.: preliminary experiments, description of the experimental campaign to be carried out, outline of the models to be taken into account, preliminary numerical studies, calibration...; etc.).
Detailed preparation of the thesis structure.
Demonstration of the syllabus coherence with the curricular unit's objectives.
The syllabus of the curricular unit, namely what concerns the preparation of the state of the art and the elaboration of preliminary studies focused on the thesis subject, provides the conditions for the production of a report presenting the thesis program, which is the final goal to be achieved.
The work involves sessions for discussion of the thesis topics and for monitoring the progress achieved. The assessment of the curricular unit Research Thesis Project involves the public discussion with a board of examiners comprising the Director of the Doctoral program, the Supervisor and Co-supervisor (if any), an External Researcher and a Professor of FEUP.
Demonstration of the coherence between the teaching methodologies and the learning outcomes.
The specific nature of this curricular unit, with a significant component of individual and original work, demands a teaching methodology that promotes recurrent discussion of the subjects involved and monitoring of the progress achieved.
