Objectives

Students will acquire practical experience in geotechnical lab environment that will enable them to perform and / or coordinate specific works in this area.

Learning outcomes and competences

They will learn to deal with these spaces and equipments, with a strict respect to safety rules, assimilating the practices of group work and shared ambient with other researchers. They will specialize in one or more geotechnical tests and will seek to acquire sensitivity to parametric analysis.

Working method

Presencial

Program

Introduction to design methods assisted by tests, including observational method; Experimentation planning; prospecting and sampling techniques; in situ and laboratory tests; application of the most adequate procedures according to the necessities; results interpretation and parameterization; execution control and life of a construction project; Tests in models and prototypes; Previous tests, acceptance and instrumentation tests of geotechnical structures.

DEMONSTRATION OF THE SYLLABUS COHERENCE WITH THE CURRICULAR UNIT'S OBJECTIVES:

Monitoring the student work in the Labgeo environment, where the graduate students and researchers will be working aside, together with report assignment and the discussion of the UC contents allows for an efficient learning experience at this education level.

Teaching methods and learning activities

Teaching involves presentation sessions and discussion of the evolution of the work. This learning of experimental studies in the laboratory (in labgeo of FEUP - www.fe.up.pt / labgeo) involves the study of specific equipment and learning experimental processes, specifically for given set of tests, including execution, data processing, parametrtical definition and analysis for geotechnical deisgn and evaluation, being the evolution of the learning  materialized by a complete  report where descrition of equipaments, processes and analyses are presented reported in detail.

DEMONSTRATION OF THE COHERENCE BETWEEN THE TEACHING METHODOLOGIES AND THE LEARNING OUTCOMES:

As explained in 6.2.1.7, monitoring the student work in the Labgeo environment, where the graduate students and researchers will be working aside, together with report assignment and the discussion of the UC contents allows for an efficient learning experience at this education level.
