Objectives

To know the main equipments and techniques used for instrumentation and observations of large Civil structures.

Learning outcomes and competences

Understanding of most relevant experimental techniques for analysis and observation of the structural behaviour and capacity for development of tests and interpretation of results from structural observation and monitoring.

Working method

Presencial

Program

Equipments for static and dynamic tests of structures; Instrumentation of measurement; Electric extensometry of resistance and optical techniques; Experimental tests in physical models; Vibration measurements in structures; Acquisition, analysis and signal processing systems; Experimental identification of dynamic parameters; Damage identification in materials and structures; Observation of structures; Techniques of structural assessment; Inspection and monitoring; Non-destructive tests and load tests;

DEMONSTRATION OF THE SYLLABUS COHERENCE WITH THE CURRICULAR UNIT'S OBJECTIVES:

The systematized description of equipments and experimental methods, illustrated with appropraite examples, enables a correct understanding of those techniques and the corresponding formo f practical application

Mandatory literature

Bastos, A.M.S.T. (1999); “Técnicas Experimentais para Análise Estática de Estruturas”, FEUP.

Teaching methods and learning activities

The teaching involves sessions with theoretical and practical presentations in the lab and discussions. The student grading will be based on a report assignment and a written exam if necessary

DEMONSTRATION OF THE COHERENCE BETWEEN THE TEACHING METHODOLOGIES AND THE LEARNING OUTCOMES:

The report assignment and the discussion of the UC contents allows for an efficient learning experience at this education level
