Objectives
To understand the techniques of repair and strengthening of existing structures, calculat and design strengthening systems and use appropriate specifications.
Learning outcomes and competences
Identify the most appropriate situations for the strengthening of concrete structures using techniques based on FRP composite systems, learn how to design and implement them.
Working method
Presencial
Program
Structural reinforcement by addition of FRP composite systems. Technique: application procedures, cementing techniques by EBR and NSM, control and quality assurance requirements, conformity tests, observation and supervision of reinforced structures;Dimensioning: dimensioning criteria of a reinforcement project with FRP composite systems. Bending, cut and confinement reinforcement;Requirements specification: specifications for the conformities construction and control in reinforcement works with FPR systems (Conformity Plans and Waste Management Plans); Diagnosis electrochemical techniques; electrochemical repair techniques (cathodic protection, chloride extraction, realkalinization). Durability monitoring. Non-electrochemical sensors (anode-ladder system, resistivity and chlorides, multi-circle electrodes, macrocell corrosion and relative humidity).Electrochemical sensors.
DEMONSTRATION OF THE SYLLABUS COHERENCE WITH THE CURRICULAR UNIT'S OBJECTIVES:
The curricular unit introduces the fundamental principles and the basis for the design of elements applied in the repair and strengthening of concrete structures using FRP composite systems. Scientific and technical aspects of design, the techniques currently used and the specifications related to their application are discussed in an integrated way.

Teaching methods and learning activities
The teaching involves sessions with theoretical presentations and discussions. The student grading will be based on a written final exam.
DEMONSTRATION OF THE COHERENCE BETWEEN THE TEACHING METHODOLOGIES AND THE LEARNING OUTCOMES:
The discussion of the UC contents allows for an efficient learning experience at this education level.
