Objectives

To prepare the students to produce a Ph.D. in some fields related with Timber, independently of its previous academic background, although the student must be na architect or civil engineer; to be defined in a more specific way according to the student’s profile and orientation (architecture; construction technology and systems; structures; rehabilitation).

Non-destructive assessment of physical and mechanical properties of wood elements in existing constructions; Physical properties and calculation of wood and derivates to use in structures;Wood structure design;Wood eco-efficient treatment;Mechanical and functional rehabilitation of wood pavements and traditional structural covering;Little intrusive architectonic requalification of buildings with wood pavements and coverings;Rehabilitation of non-structural elements made of wood.

DEMONSTRATION OF THE SYLLABUS COHERENCE WITH THE CURRICULAR UNIT'S OBJECTIVES:

The program will be adapted to each student according to His academic background, considering the structure and objectives of the Ph.D. to be developed.

Teaching methods and learning activities

The teaching involves sessions with theoretical presentations and discussions. The student grading will be based on a report assignment and a written exam if necessary.
