Objectives

The aim of this course is to improve knowledge’s in Road Engineering, focusing on Road Safety.


Learning outcomes and competences

To provide knowledge of general concepts about road infrastructure, To provide students knowledge through concepts, methods and techniques to support the analysis of accidents and risk factors as well as knowledge about solutions to prevent and mitigate road traffic accidents.

1. General concepts about road infrastructure;
2. Concepts and measures of RS;
3. Accident modelling;
4. Techniques of accident analysis;
5. Techniques of traffic conflict analysis;
6. Systems of RS managment;
7. Study of driver behaviour based on a driving simulator;
8. Other issues under RS subject.

DEMONSTRATION OF THE SYLLABUS COHERENCE WITH THE CURRICULAR UNIT'S OBJECTIVES:

Topic 1 is relevant to the knowledge of risk factors associated to road infrastructure. All topics 2 to 8 are relevant to develop scientific knowledge under RS area.

Teaching methods and learning activities

The teaching involves sessions with theoretical presentations and discussions. The student grading will be based on a scientific work published in a scientific journal. 

DEMONSTRATION OF THE COHERENCE BETWEEN THE TEACHING METHODOLOGIES AND THE LEARNING OUTCOMES:

The scientific work assignment and the discussion of the UC contents allows for an efficient learning experience at this education level.
