Objectives

To provide the students with an elementary background in the field of mechanical behavior of materials and concepts necessary to the theoretical and practical analysis of manufacturing processes in particular those related to the technology of plastic forming.

Learning outcomes and competences

It is expected that at the end of the course, the students be able to:

-          Compare materials according to their static and dynamic mechanical properties.

-          Explain the role of the crystal defects and other variables in the mechanical behavior.

-          Know the strengthening mechanics, their advantages and limitations

-          Relate the microstructure with the mechanical properties through the study of the equilibrium diagrams

-          Understand the concepts required to theoretically analyze the forming processes.

-          Identify the equipment and terminology related to these processes.

-          Design forming products and tools based on modern methods of analysis and manufacturing.

Eligibility for exams

Article 4º (FEUP evaluation rules).

Calculation formula of final grade

Weighted means of the marks of 2 Tests and the average mark of practical work reports. 1 Test on the Materials and Characterization (Part 1) 1 Test on the Metal Forming (Part 2) It is required a minimum score of 7 out of 20 values in each of the subjects. FM = A * 0.75 * B*0.25 FM=Final Mark A-Average of 2 Tests B-work report average results

Examinations or Special Assignments

Not aplicable.
