Objectives

This course unit aims to develop, in the students, fundamental skills for the development of their professional activity in an organizational context, from both either from an individual or group point of view (integration in work forces and leadership positions), assuming that organizational methods transforming people and respective contexts are supported by scientific knowledge, real work context knowledge and cooperation between different agents.

Learning outcomes and competences

At the end of this course, students should be able to:

  • Identify and define basic concepts regarding organizational behaviour and change;
  • Recognize the main global and national trends with an impact on work contexts, people and teams;
  • Position the dimension of people and work teams as a strategic element in the organization's management;
  • Recognize the role of organizational culture in managing people and work teams;
  • Recognize the relevance of acting on the individual level (your own development) and group level (development of others, whether pairs, partners or teams);
  • Identify sustainable people management methods, from recruitment to the transition to retirement;
  • Identify, collect and analyse indicators capable of highlighting the impact of implemented methods on the organizational, group and individual level;
  • Solve practical cases related to the management of people and teams, considering the theoretical knowledge and the dimension of business ethics;
Build and present, in a coherent and effective manner, intervention proposals in an organizational context.

Teaching methods and learning activities

Conceptual framework of the main themes of the Curricular Unit, complemented with critical and collective analysis of data and cases of organizations from different sectors of activity, size, geography and purpose. Sharing of practices developed by companies and other institutions, using presentations by professionals capable of contextualizing the challenges and responses of the organization they represent. Use of previous readings, preparation of scripts with questions, and resolution of practical cases.
