In accordance with the procedure defined in the specific rules of the Master in Multimedia, Dissertation characterization is as follows:
A scientific dissertation, unique and specially developed for this purpose which will consist of a written part of theoretical discussion and a practical application. The dissertation may be more theoretical or more practical, depending on the type of work involved. The component of theoretical discussion and practical application have different weights in the final assessment, respectively depending on the nature of the work to be more theoretical or practical.
At the end of the curriculum unit, students must demonstrate ability to:
Identification of a problem to be solved;
Survey of State-of-the-art respective;
Analysis of potential solutions;
Development of a solution;
Evaluation of the developed solution;
Dissertation report writing
Individual work of research and development, held either in academic or academic/enterprise environment. In this case the objectives, nature and monitoring form should be object of a prior agreement and of a permanent monitoring through meetings between the student, the supervisor from FEUP and the responsible for monitoring of the work in the company.

The final assessment of the dissertation takes place in public examination by a jury evaluates the work, the report and the presentation in order to assign a final grade of 0 to 20.
