Objectives



The overall objective is to:

Develop a set of methodological skills that enable each student to circumscribe a theme, identify a problem and define work objectives.

In cases where the assigned dissertation is hosted in an external institution, it is possible that part of the preparatory work under this Curricular Unit will  be done in the institution facilities, with a tutor named by it.

Learning outcomes and competences

After completion of the UC students should have developed knowledge and skills that enable:

Delimiting an area of work / research and identify a theme
Develop a literature search
Build a knowledge matrix
Define and delimit a work / research problem
Formulate hypotheses for solving the problem
Define objectives (general and specific)
Justify the relevance of the proposed work
To draw a methodology for the development of the work
Identify the procedures and the necessary resources
Design and plan the development of the research project
Outline the procedures for dissemination of the acquired knowledge

Teaching methods and learning activities

The applied teaching methodology is based on four components:


  • Presentation of the conceptual basic content by the teacher ;

  • Discussion of research issues in thematic groups and in large group;

  • Assisted practice of information research;

  • Individual work with tutorial support.



The evaluation is carried out through the public presentation of a Master Project design, which should include a systematic review of the state of the art in three areas: scientific, technical and legal.

Eligibility for exams

Terms of frequency: Minimum attendance  requirement of 75% to students holding a OHS Certificate (CCP – SHT) and minimum attendance of 90% to students without a OHS Certificate (CCP – SHT).
