Objectives

To enable PhD Students to discuss and select their own thesis subject. To help students to explain their decision and write the State of the Art Report on thye respective scientific subject as well as their Thesis temporal Plan.

Learning outcomes and competences

 In the end of this course, students should be able to:

- analyze and select specific research subjects;

- perform research work, focused in specific subjects;

- identify the main bibliography, as well as the relevant Researchers and respective groups;

- perform a critical synthesis of the above mentioned information in a State-of-the-art Report;

- identify and state an hypothesis, as well as the main questions of the research;

- clearly state the methods and methodologies, as well as to establish the research work plan leading to an innovative solution for the proposed subject/problem

1- General discussion on the possible Doctoral subjects for all the students 2- To support and promote good practices for writing individual Reports that include: - State of the Art (SOA) on the selected research area - Thesis Plan 3- Intermediate SOA report and oral presentation assessment 4 Individual final oral presentations and collective discussion on the submitted final Reports

Eligibility for exams

Positive evaluation of the final written report on thesis plan and  state of the art about the thesis scientific area.

Calculation formula of final grade

10% Intermediate Report (and presentation) 65% Final Report Evaluation 25% Final Presentation

The same applied to the regular students.

Observations

Although a supervisor's collaboration on Reports writing can be possible, it should be absolutely clear the PhD student's authorship as well as his/her own responsibility regarding the produced material.
