Objectives
According to the MIB Syllabus the Preparation of Dissertation Monography's main objectives are: choosing a dissertation topic, conducting a review of the state of the art matching and prepare the work plan in collaboration with the supervisor. The preparation of the work plan should be accompanied by a set of preparatory tasks to start the dissertation, including a detailed characterization (s) problem (s) to discuss, identification and analysis of requirements, methodology to be adopted, technologies and / or tools to use, etc.., in addition to the literature review and survey of the state of the art.
Learning outcomes and competences
By the end of the semester, each student will have acquired the ability to prepare a dissertation work, as laid out in the course syllabus.

Program
Each student will have an individual work program, specific to the dissertation subject, which should motivate the student in acquiring expertise in a range of topics relevant to the theme of the dissertation. This work is to be developed in close cooperation with the dissertation supervisor. It will consist of the writing of a literature review of the art, the organization of the dissertation work plan, the definition of the methodologies that he/she will use, and, whenever justified, will also include the development of some practical work in preparation for the work that he/she will develop during the dissertation, such as assembling materials or components, setting up experiments, or even developing some hardware or software.

Teaching methods and learning activities
Individual supervised work (learn by doing). The work will be based on consultation, interpretation and analysis of research papers that address issues relevant to the subject of the dissertation, being followed by a careful discussion with the supervisor.

Calculation formula of final grade
The final grade results from the grade given to the final monograph report (80%) and a progress report handed in by the 16th of November (20%). Evaluation of the monograph is the responsability of a jury presided by one of the coordinators of the course, the supervisor(s) and the external examiner of the Dissertation. The progress report is the evaluated by the coordinators of the course.
Observations
The units of Preparation of Dissertation Monograph and Dissertation should be taken in consecutive semesters.
