The course aims at providing students with concepts on Energy Efficiency and Energy Rational Use, with focus on Electric Energy. The knowledge will be acquired through discussion of technologies, economical assessment, feasibility and legal framework in Portugal and the Europena Union.
According to the objectives.
Mathematical finance applied to energy conservation projects. Interest, capital revenue, pay-back period, economic feasibility.
The energy supply and use problem at world and local level.
National regulations. Energy audits.
Combined heat and power generation: gas turbines, gas engines, diesel engines, fuel cells. Tri-generation.
Discission of case studies: technical and financial perspectives.
Energy management in buildings: residential and commerce sectors.
Energy management in the manufacturing industry. Peak power control.
Introductory topics: classes conducted by the course coordinator.
Development topics: classes based on a discussion of the topic presented in the previous class, prepared according to a given schedule. Classes include the description of real cases. Students are assumed to collect a bibliographic reference list of their own, having as departing point the topics indicated by the course coordinator. No specific material will be supplied apart from te materials distributed in each class.

Completing assignments within the time slots defined, attendance to class discussions and special assignment.
Presence and deliver of answers to the mini-test.

Approval is conditioned to reaching a minimum grade of 6 (out of 13) in the mini-test, and 2 (out of 4) on the set of report plus poster.
No special provisions are defined.
In specific cases, a student may be allowed to be submitted to the mini-test in a date different from the general date for the normal students.
