Objectives

Present the knowledge of the Computer Graphics and Computer Animation concepts, algorithms and technologies. A deep study is done in the 3D domain. Important themes are MOdeling 3D, Image Synthesis and Computer Animation. The practical component of this course unit is complemented with a software application for modelling, rendering and animation in 3D.

Learning outcomes and competences

After the successful completion of this course unit, students should be capable of: - understanding a graphic system on its whole; - geometrically modelling a set of three-dimensional objects; - controlling lighting and the visual aspect of objects; - defining and developing animations with three-dimensional objects.

Working method

Presencial

Program

Overview about Computer Graphics, with predominance in the 3D.
  - Image Synthesis and Illumination Models, including topics in the domain of High Realistic Rendering.
  - Colour.
  - Modelling curves, surfaces and solids.
  - 3D Geometrical Transformations.

3D animation pipeline
  - Engineering behind an animation pipeline
  - 3D Surface Modeling based on polygons
  - Modelação e animação baseada em estruturas esqueléticas
  - The Rig in the context of creation of 3D facial avatars
  - Script based animation

Eligibility for exams

Regularity in classes

Calculation formula of final grade

Final.Cl=40%*Work.Cl + 60%*Exam
Obs.: the practical work is mandatory

Examinations or Special Assignments

Practical work: Modelling and animation of a 3D Scene proposed by the student and to be agreed with the professor. The practical work is mandatory.

Special assessment (TE, DA, ...)

Special cases that are exempt of regular classes are subject to the same rules of evaluation applied to the normal cases.

Classification improvement

Practical work classification improvement does not exist. The final exam improvement follows the normal rules of FEUP.
