Individual work of project aiming the integration and application of knowledge, skills and attitudes obtained along the course, in the area of Automation. The work will take place at FEUP, in a Research Institute or in industry, promoting the development of capabilities of initiative, implementation and individual work
The work should promote the pre analysis of of the project proposed, collect relevant information, theoretical study of a problem ou pratical development, namely with the implementation of new solutions and its validation, generate a summary report for the public presentation and discussion of results
The student must have successfully completed all UC relevant to the project that will develop
The project is full-time work project, according to a previously defined work program according to specific protocol.
The project has a duration of about 20 weeks (30 ECTS - 810 hours) generally involving the following tasks:
- Detailed definition of the problem to analyze
- Literature search
- Theoretical study or design of a solution for a problem
- Numerical validation or development and construction of one buildong project
- Preparation of summary report
- Final public presentation presented to a jury
Project will have a mentor designated by FEUP and may have an advisor of the project's host institution, company or organization dedicated to research. It is also possible to carry out the project within a research unit of FEUP.
Students have at the beginning of the UC a session of research support of information given by the service of documentation and information of FEUP and an introduction session that raises awareness of the problems that can arise and alert to the problem of avoiding plagiarism.
The development of the work carried out on this UC includes a frequent contact with mentor(s), as well as a weekly meeting with the other students involved in the same UC.
During the period of this UC there will be organized some presentations of special lectures on Automation subjects and there will be promoted visits to industrial sites of interest to the UC

As set forth in the regulatory standards for the master course, the project must take place on an exclusive basis.
The frequency is dependent on:
1. Presence on the periodic meetings with the mentor
2. Presence at the place indicated by the mentor for the work to take place
3. Presence in the weekly meetings with the other students of the UC
- A classification of 10 to 12 corresponds to a work relatively easy, where the minimum objectives have been reached.
- A classification of 13 to 15 corresponds to a work of average difficulty, carried through with reasonable autonomy and where all the objectives were reached.
- A classification of 16 to 17 must correspond to a good work, of high difficulty, carried through with a high autonomy level, being the declared objectives fulfilled or exceeded.
- A classification of 18 must correspond to an excellent work, presented and defended in an exemplary way, with a report very well organized, concise and complete, with a remarkable autonomy and performance and enhanced by the supervisor during its accomplishment.
- Classifications above of 18 must be truly exceptional and must be attributed only to students who have reached levels of excellence in all the evaluation components and where innovative solutions have been found. They must be attributed by unanimity and be supported by a document that defends and justifies them, signed by all the members of the jury.
