Objectives

To acquaint students with the various existing available resources for georeferencing activities and engineering works including Cartography, Surveying and Geographic Information Systems.

CTSIG course will be ministered in two modules, namely:

Module of Mapping and Surveying (TC).

Module of Geographic Information Systems (SIG).

Learning outcomes and competences

Cartography and Topography Module:

Preliminary Notions, Form of the Earth, Representations of the Land

Know the different types of representations of the earth's surface.

Distinguish operations of planimetry and altimetry.

Become familiar with the National Military Maps at the scale 1/25000.

Using the different types of scales.

Perform operations to calculate distances and areas on topographic maps.

Construct topographic profiles.

Know the laws of contours representation.

Identify typical forms of land in topographic maps.

Knowing delineate watersheds on topographic maps.

Know the meaning of key symbols in existing topographic maps.

Recognize the importance of field guidance and practice it.

  Instruments - Topographic Surveys

Know and use the major tools and accessories auxiliary operations surveying.

Practice positioning and parking of surveying instruments.

Understand the principles of indirect measurement of distances.

Undertake measures distances by direct and indirect.

To implement various kinds of topographic alignments.

Alignments extend beyond topographic obstacles.

Known, use a passbook taqueométrica.

Conduct a simple survey and stakeout.

Acquire habits maintenance and conservation of material topography.

Module Geographic Information Systems

Acquire and understand the essential concepts of geographic information - georeferencing

Understand and apply the coordinate systems: geographic and metrics.

Develop applications within a GIS project: variables and attributes.

Capacity development of a GIS project: construction of cartographic outputs environment.
