Objectives

The main objective of this course unit is to prepare the student for the Dissertation either in business or academic environment.
In this course students develop a work on a topic proposed by a faculty member of the MIEMM, typically related to the theme of Dissertation, providing students with key competencies for the appropriate development of that curricular unit, in most cases, the last of the study programme. It is also intended that students establish contact with specific processing techniques and, when appropriate, with the company where they will develop the Dissertation work.

Learning outcomes and competences

Students expand the knowledge in specific area; assimilate the processes, practices and methodologies associated with scientific research; develop of scientific criticism; demonstrate the ability to prepare and present a monograph on a specific theme; finally, develop techniques of written, electronics/multimedia and oral communication.

Presencial

Pre-requirements (prior knowledge) and co-requirements (common knowledge)

Depending on the theme, students will apply knowledge gained in different curricular units of MIEMM.

Program

Each student has to carry out an assignment which is selected from a vast range of themes proposed by the professors.
All the assignments should be carried out within the period of classes, so that the written reports, which are mandatory, can be presented in public during the season of exams at the end of the first semester.

The Seminar Work should be mainly based on a bibliographic research, yet students can also carry out some experimental work.

The coordinator proposes a final classification with a 80% weight; a second teacher is nominated by the staff to appreciate the work and is responsible for the 20% remaining classification.
