Objectives

The overall goal is to:
Develop a set of methodological skills that enable each student to circumscribe a topic, identify a problem and define research goals.

The specific objectives include:
• To acquire advanced knowledge on operationalization of the different research paradigms;
• To interiorise a critical and reflective attitude about available information ;
• To develop the ability to identify, assess and formulate problems of occupational safety and health;
• To develope the ability to work in a multidisciplinar and multicultural team.

Learning outcomes and competences

Students should be able to:
• Understand the multidisciplinary nature of occupational safety and health problems and the need for cooperative approaches to solve them.
• To know different perspectives and approaches to the Occupational Safety and Health topics;
• To establish the boundaries of the topic, to identify a problem and define research goals;
• To know the basic criteria for analyzing scientific literature;
• To know how to do a systematic review on a subject.

Presencial

Program

Brief presentation of the themes of interest of the DemSSO Professors and researchers;
Presentation of the experience and research results of the students of previous editions of DemSSO;
Methodologies to do research in typical data bases and also in other sources out of the ‘mainstream’;
Seminars, round tables and debates with specialized people from different scientific areas;
Students’ visits, interviews and other activities;
Multi and interdisciplinary analyses on Occupational Safety and Health;
Any scale problems identification;
Presentation of research results in conferences, round tables or debates.

Teaching methods and learning activities

Lecture, discussion and debate of different issues in a holistic perspective, under the Safety and Occupational Health.
Exchange of knowledge and experiences in network within and outside the group of students and teachers of the Doctoral Program, combining different approaches and attitudes, within a systemic way.
Review of the work of each student by two colleagues.
