Objectives

Transmit level knowledge of materials and techniques of applying them. Designing for durability and special structures.

Learning outcomes and competences

Learn the main technical specifications for products and systems that integrate the new materials in construction. Identify the performance techniques associated with new materials. Define and list the general procedures for monitoring and quality assurance. Learn to design for durability.

Working method

Presencial

Program

Cementitious materials to substitute Portland cement, obtained from waste or treated or non-treated subproducts which improve concrete durability; Performance of special concrete (self compacting concrete, high-performance concrete, etc);
Design for durability; Models for service life (time initiation and corrosion). Preventive measures for reinforced and prestressed concrete structures (controlled permeability formwork, stainless steel, etc.). Polymer concrete and mortar. Replacement of concrete with natural aggregates for industrial byproducts. High density concrete. Joints between concretes of different ages.

DEMONSTRATION OF THE SYLLABUS COHERENCE WITH THE CURRICULAR UNIT'S OBJECTIVES:

Allow to work with new materials, develop new structural solutions, new care in building technology for enhancing the strength, durability and sustainability in civil engineering.
