Objectives

Objectives: This course aims to give students the fundamental concepts, both theoretical and practical, to analyse manufacturing processes related to plastic conformation technologies and machining technologies. How to use these concepts in order to develop products and tools.

Learning outcomes and competences

By the end of the semester, students should: 1. be familiar with the fundamental characteristics of manufacturing processes, their capabilities and limitations, as well as their applicability to create a product; 2. be familiar with machine-tools: how to operate them, their components, and their different types; 3. be familiar with the tools used in each process, how to operate them and their main components; 4. be capable of defining processes related to the production of different components/ products and corresponding stages of production.

Eligibility for exams

According to Article 4 of General Evaluation Rules of FEUP

Calculation formula of final grade

FM = A*0.7 + B*0.3
FM: Final Mark
A: Average grade of the two written tests
B: Assignments average grade

Each written test consist of two equally weighted parts; PLASTIC FORMING and MACHINING.

The group work will be mandatory and it includes written report, oral presentation and discussion.

The recovering test can be partial (1st or 2nd test, Plastic Forming or Machining) or total and its classification prevails if it is higher than the previously obtained.

Special assessment (TE, DA, ...)

An exam based on the themes that have been taught. An individual assignment with a written report and oral presentation – the theme will be chosen by the professors

FM= A*0.7 + B*0.3 FM:Final Mark A- Grade of the exam B- Grade of the assignment

For students with a positive mark in the group assignment, in the present or in the immediate past scholar year, this mark will be used for B, with no need of a new work.

Classification improvement

An exam based on the themes that have been taught.
