To provide final year students the chance to apply the knowledge acquired throughout the course into solving real world problems and to provide them a first experience on integration in a enterprise environment.
Program
The project in an enterprise environment is a full-time activity which takes place at an institution. An individual program previously set has to be followed according to a protocol between the host institution, FEUP and the students.
The project in an enterprise environment lasts SIX MONTHS (about 26 weeks), being 22 weeks dedicated to the execution of the project and the remaining weeks to write the corresponding report.

Teaching methods and learning activities
The project in an enterprise environment comprises every year processes of selection of host companies, definition of objectives/themes and the assignment of projects to students. This process includes the following stages:
- contact with companies by sending a publication with the presentation of the undergraduate programme of Industrial Engineering and Management and students who are about to finish their degree, along with a letter with all the details of the project;
- definition of the theme and goals of the project, which is set by the supervisor at the company and course director.
- presentation of a list of all projects available, as well as an explanation of companies’ selection criteria of students.
- after being aware of the list of projects, students use an application sheet indicating their preference. Students’ allocation is made according to the companies’ selection criteria and students’ preferences.
- project supervision is made by monthly supervision tutorial with the presence of the student and both supervisors (FEUP and company supervisors).

Calculation formula of final grade
After six months, students have to deliver a report on the work done.
The assessment of the project will be done by a jury mandatorily composed by three people, unless otherwise agreed, which are FEUP’s supervisor and company supervisor and course director.
Students have to prepare a summary presentation to last up to 20 minutes, which has to be previously agreed with the supervisors. After the presentation takes place a discussion, which lasts 40 minutes, where students have to answer to jury’s questions about the project.
