Objectives

Study of muscular, nervous and endocrine systems with a special regard to the homeostatic mechanisms .

Learning outcomes and competences

Students must learn the major fonctional mechanisms of the 2 integrative systems (nervous and endocrine) and be able to preview the effects on the cardiovascular, respiratory and renal systems when a disfonction of the integrative sytem occurs.

Working method

Presencial

Program

NERVOUS SYSTEM: Physical and physical-chemical principles of electrophysiology.  Electrophysiological basis of neurophysiology.  Physiology of the fundamental components of the nervous system.  The main nervous pathways and superior nervous functions. Sensory modalities - the sense organs, somatic sensors and proprioceptores;  Autonomic regulation systems. Centres for cardiovascular and respiratory control - clinical concepts;

ENDOCRINE SYSTEM: Definition, chemical nature, synthesis and hormone transport. Action at cellular level: receptors and 2nd messengers. The hypothalamus. Endocrine function of the Hypophysis, Pancreas, Thyroid Adrenal Steroid Hormones and gonads. Calcium and phosphate homeostasis. Bone Physiology. Modelling and remodelling and their control: parathyroid hormone, calcitonin, VIT D and its metabolites.

Mandatory literature

Guyton Arthur C; Textbook of medical physiology. . ISBN: ISBN: 0-7216-1260-1

Calculation formula of final grade

General evalaution (15/20): Students can opt to the accomplishment of parcelar tests (2) or the final examination. The final examination (or parcelar tests) consists of of multiple choice questions test.

Oral evaluation (5/20): Students must present by a oral exposition 2 subjects, 1 from nervous system and 1 from endocrine system.

Final evaluation (20/20) = General evaluation + Oral evaluation
