Objectives

This course aims at providing students with an introductory contact with the management process, concepts and tools. This course covers the management process, the main management functional areas, and some introductory concepts of strategic management.
The course will join a strong theoretical basis with an applied component, through the use of case studies and group work.

Teaching methods and learning activities

The teaching of this course is supported by the following components of complementary activities:

A1. THEORETICAL CONCEPTS
The theoretical classes will focus on the fundamental management theories and instruments, which provide the basis for the applied work.

A2. PRACTICAL CASES
The pratical classes will focus on case study analysis and dicussion, as well as small team works, with an emphasis on the application of the theoretical concepts and instruments.

A3. Group assignmnet: analysis of a company's use of technology in management. This group project consists in an analysis of the use of technology in a company's functional management areas and strategic management.

Eligibility for exams

The continuous assessment grade comprises the execution of a group assignment on the use of strategic management technologies in a company:
1 – Presentation of the company which will be analysed (5% of the final grade)
2- Presentation and delivery of an intermediate report (10% of the final grade)
3- Bullet proof and oral presentation (25% of the final grade)

Calculation formula of final grade

Final grade= 0.05* (component 1 of continuous assessment) + 0.1* (component 2 of continuous assessment) + 0.25* (component 3 of continuous assessment) + 0.6* grade of the exam

Students have to reach a minimum grade of 37.5% in every assessment components.

Examinations or Special Assignments

Students with special status who cannot attend classes have to:
1- perform an individual assignment set by the professor.
2- attend an oral exam about the theme of the assignment and other themes that professors think are necessary to be mentioned.
