This course aims to present the fundamentals of nanotechnology and the preparation, characterization and application of nanomaterials.

Program

1. Introduction: Nanotechnology. Nanomaterials
2. Nanostructured materials:
Nanoporous materials
Nanoparticles and nanocomposites
Dendrimer and hybrids (organic-inorganic)
Ultra-thin film and revetments
Carbon nanotubes and nanofibers
3. Nanofabrication techniques
Processes of physical and chemical deposition
Sol-gel process
Langmuir-Blodgett films

Nanolithography and etching
4. Characterization techniques
Electron microscopy (SEM, TEM)
Scanning probe microscopy (AFM, STM)
5. Application

Teaching methods and learning activities

Various presentations will be given not only by the professor but also by guests in order to present the themes of the course. Furthermore, it will take place study trips (characterization techniques, applications) and students’ presentations.
Presentations will be supervised by the professor.

Evaluation Type

Distributed evaluation without final exam

Eligibility for exams

Students have to attend all presentations and take part of the all study trips. These activities can only be skipped if justified.

Calculation formula of final grade

FM = 0,75 P + 0,25 PO
P- Presentation (group assignment)
PO- Professor’s opinion regarding students’ performance, namely in the oral presentation and activities participation.

Examinations or Special Assignments

A group assignment and presentation
Report has to be delivered up until the end of December

Special assessment (TE, DA, ...)

Not applicable, since the main assessment component is a group assignment

Classification improvement

Not applicable, since the main assessment component is a group assignment
