Objectives

A comprehensive knowledge of petroleum refining and provide a wider mastering of their tecnical responsabilities.
On completion of the semester, the student should:
- have acquired the most important refining techniques
- know the main refining process with their fundamental aspects and their operation
- understand the technology and the operation of the equipment
- be aware of safety and environmental issues in refinery operations

1- A overview of the most important catalytic process used in oil refining and petrochemical
2- Equipments - operation, maintenance and process integration
3- Crude oil fraccionation - Industrial units: atmospheric distillation, vacuum distillation and light ends fractionation.
4- Sulphur production - Claus unit
5- Merox and Bender units
6- Catalytic Reforming and isomerization
7- Hidrotreatment process
8- Catalytic cracking
9- Alkylation
10- Residue Convertion
11- Purification and production of hydrogen
12- Conversion units: visbreaking, coker, hydrocracker
13- Petrochemicals process: Aromatics plant
