Objectives

Introduction to the basics concepts needed for the Analysis of Solids and Structures and acquisition of the capacity of solving and understanding basic problems of solid Mechanics.

Program

Analysis of Stress: Concept of Stress, equilibrium equations, principal stresses, state of plane stress and stresses in cylindrical coordinates. Analysis of Strain: Concdept of strain, strain transformation equations, principal strains, compatibility equarions and strains in cylindrical coordinates. Elastic Behaviour of Materials. Generalized Hooke' Law. Initial Yield Functions and Elastic Strength.
Shear Forces and Bending Moments in Beams. Pure Bending. Out of plane Bending. Bending combined with normal loading and shear. Stresses in Beams. Deflections of Statically Determinate Beams.
Torsion of Circular Shafts. Equation of Torsion - Methods of Solution. Formulas of Bredt and Finite Difference Method.
