Objectives

- To introduce the concept of Occupational Safety;
- To identify the most frequent risks of occupational accidents;
- To identify some special risks;
- To state an economic perspective of accident rate;
- To point out solutions to the different risk situations.

Program

• Fundamentals of Occupational Safety – Ethic and social, legal and economic aspects;
• Legal Regime of occupational accidents – Concept, evidence and compensation costs, special cases, compensation costs and pensions calculation, insurance and accident declaration;
• Occupational accidents causation, occupational accidents statistics, statistic control of occupational accidents;
• Personal protection equipment - selection and test, main types;
• Fire prevention and protection – Causes and consequences of fires, fire chemistry, explosion limits, fire detection and extinction, behaviour to fire of construction elements and materials; general aspects of fire safety, protection systems, fire safety organisation and management;

- Electric risks – the electric currents and the human body; Risk of contact with the electric current; consequences of direct and indirect contact in the different neutral regimes; Practical protection measures; Static electricity and the lightning; Special risks;
- Protection of machines; Main types of equipments; Types of risks; Electrical and mechanical protection; Legislation
- Transport and mechanical handling of loads – Elevation and manual transport of loads; Mechanical handling of loads; Storage systems;
- Safety and health signs
