Objectives

The option aims at providing a supplementary instruction in domains of Chemistry, Physics, Chemical Engineering and other technical and professional domains, in order to prepare future chemical engineers for working in firms which produce, process and/or sell polymers.
This particular subject is intended to train the students in the scientific and technological aspects of artificial and synthetic polymers production.

Program

Chemistry and engineering of polymerization reactions and processes: Linear irreversible polycondensations -Linear reversible polycondensations- Non-linear polycondensations - Anionic and cationic polymerization -Ziegler-Natta polymerization - Radical polymerization-Modification and chemical recycling of polymers.

Teaching methods and learning activities

Lectures supported by presentation of slides. Tutorial sessions with resolution of problems, previously distributed to the students. Laboratory sessions on polymer synthesis. Home works consisting in problems with large extension and use of computer, too long for solving during a tutorial session, and reports about lab work.
