Adsorption processes and membrane technology.

Program

Separation processes. Classification. Percolation processes.

- Adsorption. Classification of adsorbent systems. Theory of equilibrium. Difusivity measurements in adsorbent systems. Adsorption in packed beds; simulation, modelling. Industrial processes.

- Chromatography. Gas Chromatography, HPLC. Operation modes: elution, frontal, protein separation. ''Perfusion''.

- Cyclic processes. Pressure swing adsorption (PSA), simulated moving bed (SMB) and parametric pumping (PP).

- Membrane processes.

Teaching methods and learning activities

Theoretical explanation to provide the methodology to analyse dynamic systems and the analogy between different systems. Some real problems are treated in the practical lessons to encourage the students to solve new problems and to use a systematic approach.
