Objectives
This course aims to introduce students to the state of the art of the available communication services in a TCP/IP infrastructure, as well as the essential support services to its operation.
It also aims to develop students’ practical skills regarding the installation, configuration and understanding the functioning of these services.
Program
Introduction to communication services and their contextualization to the previously learned concepts and technologies.
Introduction to the essential support services which are necessary to operate a TCP/IP network, such as DNS, DHCP, AAA.
Introduction to some communication services which are broadly spread and used, such as E-mail. It will be analysed e-mail functioning, as well as SPAM control and access to the Web regarding their functioning, proxies and voltage distribution.
Introduction to multimedia communication services: formats, audio and video codification and normalization; Study of IETF multimedia architecture, concepts, architectures, streaming protocols (RTP, SDP and SIP); Study of VoIP and IPTV architecture for TV and voice on the Internet. Introduction to the concepts of decentralized communication services: structured and unstructured P2P file-sharing, P2P download, audio and video streaming and P2P traffic control.
