Objectives
At the end of the course, students should:
- master the main results of cryptography and most used cryptographic primitives;
- be acquainted with the basic security components of network systems and its functioning;
- be capable of understanding the models of design of security protocols;
- be acquainted with the various types of attacks to computer systems;
- be capable of applying their knowledge in the resolution of complex engineering and security problems.
Program
This course covers the following items:
(i) fundamental principles of information security when it is digitally stored and which is transmitted by insecure channels;
(ii) main security tools used in nowadays communication networks and information systems. It will be comprehensively presented the main results of cryptography, namely the notion of perfect secrecy, classical cipher, symmetric key cryptography and public key cryptography with its application to networks, protocols and systems. Analysis of the performance of the various security architectures.
The program of this course is divided into two parts:
1) Security Mechanisms: Symmetric ciphers, public key cryptography, key distribution, authentication, hash functions;
2) Services and security protocols: authentication applications, E-mail, IP and Web security, intrusion detection, malicious software, firewall
