Objectives

To provide basic knowledge related with the equipment use of assays and techniques of materials observation and control of the construction workmanships secutity. Presentation of real cases of damage in workmanships for diagnosis of damage and elaboration of recovery designs.

Program

Techniques and methods used in the experimental analysis and its application to the observation of workmanships of civil engineering. Identification of the sizes more relevant to measure, characterization of the specific instrumentation of each type of measurement and of the methodology to use in the observation and specific assays of workmanships. Measurement of deformations, forces and temperatures. Types of transducers, its specific characteristics and way of functioning. Systems of acquisition and registration of the measurements. Techniques of electric extensometry of resistance and its most used applications in the experimentation. Used methodologies and special techniques in the observation, types of observation and methods of not destructive analysis. Types of assays for characterization of the materials in laboratory and “in situ”, load assays, assays for damage diagnosis in workmanships and repairing techniques. The substances will be exemplificadas with real cases of comment and assays of workmanships. Practical works in laboratory are foreseen where the pupils will carry through the instrumentation and the assay of models and the results analysis.

Teaching methods and learning activities

The lessons are of the theoretician-practical type (4h of lesson per week), and will occur whenever it is necessary in the installations of the Construction Materials Laboratory and the Geossinthetics Laboratory, for exemplification of the teaching subjects and for the accomplishment of experimental assays.
