Materials and Construction Processes Engineering Seminar
Instance: 2006/2007 - 1S
Cycles of Study/Courses
Teaching language
Portuguese
Objectives
To confer knowledge in the use of new materials, over all polymers hardened and composites systems strengthened with staple fibres (FRP), in the rehabilitation of structures and/or construction of new constructions. Clear understanding of the behaviour of the constituent materials, the form of the commercialized products, the techniques of application and the posterior functioning of the strengthened structures and/or new structures. To supply a joint base of procedures for control and quality assurance of the reinforcement technique for glue of composites systems of FRP.
Program
1 - Introduction to the composites materials;
2 - Hardened polymers: short and long stated period characterization of the material, criteria of production and practical cases of application;
3 - Strengthened Composites Materials With Staple fibres (FRP): short and long stated period characterization of the materials (staple fibres, matrix, polymers), products form, definition of the constituent law of the material (characteristic and calculation), normalized assays of the materials reception.
4 - Reinforcement of structures of hardened for glue of CFRP armours: commercial systems of FRP, reinforcement/rehabilitation of structures for addition of CFRP systems, principles of sizing and verification of security (reinforcement of the bending, the cut and the confinement, execution and control procedures and quality assurance.
5 - Accomplishment of research studies and synthesis for each two pupils in the scope of the concerning subjects. Elaboration of a report (written and drawn parts) that justifies all the activity developed on the part of each work group.
6 - Lectures and conferences.
Teaching methods and learning activities
In the theoretic-practical lessons the important concepts and results are presented in order to confer knowledge and confidence in the use of new materials, over all hardened polymers and composites systems strengthened with staple fibres (FRP), in the rehabilitation of structures and/or construction of new constructions, through the clear understanding of the behaviour of the constituent materials, of the form of the commercialized products, the techniques of application and the posterior functioning of the strengthened structures and/or new structures. There is a strong appeal to the direct contact and the short and long stated period mechanical characterization of these new materials through the contribution of entities that supply the available systems of FRP in the national market and through the resource to assays in the Materials and Structures Laboratory. Trough out the course the pupils are alerted for the normative proposals and available computational tools for design.
Some studies/works for groups of pupils in the scope of the reinforcement of structures with FRP systems are carried through or in the scope of the subjects of the courses of the conditional option.
