Cycles of Study/Courses
Teaching language

Objectives
This course aims to give the fifth year students that chose Hidraulics as specific area, the knowledge on Fluvial Works and Hydroplants that was not possible to provide on General Hidraulics and Applied Hydraulics.
That knowledge concerns the conception of Hydroplants and hydraulic sizing of the design elements, the enviromental impact of the work and development of the project.
By taking this course the students will be prepared to develop the tasks required by the project, the control, the coordenation of the execution as well as the construction of the most usual Hydroplants.
Program
Conception and hydraulic sizing of the fundamental elements of the Hydroplants. Hydraulic definition of non-integrated structures on the Hydraulic Circuit, Hydraulic Circuit, Forced conducts (Hydraulic issues), Hydromechanic Equipment.
Fluvial Regularization and Floods Control.
Improvement and Requalification Works includding Shores Protection.
Construction Details.
Environmental Impact.
Hydroplants Observation.
Hydroplants Design Development. Contest procedures.
Teaching methods and learning activities
At the beginning of the year the subject contents are presented to the students; due to the wide range of the topics it is important to get a good coordination between theorectical classes and theorectical and practical classes so that omissions and repetitions are prevented. In order to do that, it is required an adjusted performance of the Teaching Staff.
All the subject contents are covered in the theorectical classes (that focus on all the basic theorectical issues, as well as some practical ones).
The theorectical classes are complemented with the resolution of some practical exercises.
The students will also have some kind of contact with the professional reality by visiting some construction sites.
