Objectives

OPTION 2: Evaluation of the Surface Water Qualidade of a Hydrographic Basin Using Mathematical Modeling

1.Study of surface water quality using mathematical models developed by and available from USEPA and USGS
2.Gathering hydraulic data and use of land
3. Calculation and allocation of polluting loads, from both point and diffused sources, in a river basin.
4.Application of obtained data from a small river basin to EPA model QUAL2E

OPTION 2: Evaluation of the Surface Water Qualidade of a Hydrographic Basin Using Mathematical Modeling

1. Programme (Theoretical Part)

1.1. Hydrology of Small Drainage Basin

(1) Hydrological balance (hydrological cycle and its components)
(2) Precipitation and surface runoff
(3) Sub-surface and underground flows
(4) Estimation and prediction of river flow

1.2. Physical Quality of River Waters

(1) Soil erosion and transport of solids
(2) Sedimentation of suspended solids in river

1.3. Chemical and Biological Quality of River Waters

(1) Chemical characteristics of clean river water
(2) Chemical characteristics of polluted river water
(3) Capacity of self-purification of river
(4) Chemical and biological quality of fresh water relating to utilisation

1.4. General Evaluation of Water Quality of Drainage Basin

(1) Mathematical models for quantitative and qualitative evaluation of river water
(2) Mathematical model QUAL2E of EPA, USA
(3) Mathematical models as tool for planning of water pollution control and beneficial uses of hydraulic resources
