Objectives

The central aim of this course is to train students on the development of industrial information systems, by integrating data acquisition devices, database management systems and web applications.
Besides, this course aims to consolidate students’ knowledge on the methods of system analysis and specification and project management. This course also aims to deepen students’ knowledge on business processes of industrial companies, as well as production and quality management, logistics and maintenance.

1. Web programming fundamentals
- Web applications: basic concepts
- Presentation of style sheets
- Presentation of PHP programming language
- Presentation of JavaScript programming language

2. Web programming techniques
- State maintenance in Web applications
- Web applications structure: data access layer, business logic layer and presentation layer
- Web and Ajax services

3. Database management systems
- Integrity constraints, views, triggers and transactions
- Data modelling and database design

Teaching methods and learning activities

At the beginning of the course, it will be introduced web programming fundamentals and students will have to do practical assignment, which will last approximately 6 weeks. This assignment aims to train students on fundamental techniques of Web programming.
The second part of the course will be focused on more advanced themes (such as Webservices, ajax, structure of Web applications, database design). At the same time, it will be developed an industrial information systems (requirements analysis, specification, conception, implementation and test).

Eligibility for exams

Students have to reach a minimum mark of 40% in the practical assignments.

Calculation formula of final grade

Final Mark will be based on the average mark of the following components:
- Continuous assessment: 10%
- Practical assignments: 60%
- Final Exam: 30%

Students have to reach a minimum mark of 40% in the final exam, to complete the course.

Special assessment (TE, DA, ...)

Students who cannot attend to classes have to do practical assignments (to be defined by the professors) and a final exam.

Classification improvement

Students can improve their mark of the continuous assessment component by doing an extra assignment. Improvement of the final exam mark (according to the rules).

Observations

Students have to do an oral presentation of both of their assignments, which will be individually assessed, accordingly to the aims of the course.
