Objectives

The aims of the subject are:
- Application and Acquisition of Knowledge in an area of the Mechanical Construction Field.
- Initiation to Research in a specific field

Program

To develop work of research initiation in one of the following fields:
-Composite materials – Design, Manufacturing and Testing. Product Development. Biomechanics. Crashworthiness of Composite Structures. Mechanical behaviour of advanced composite materials. Joining (Riveted Joints and Adhesives) and repair of composite materials. Impact.
-Computational Mechanics  Finite Element Method, Hierarchical Finite Element Method and Meshless Methods. Applications in Industrial Forming Processes, Biomechanics, Composite Laminates, Structures, Mechanical Vibrations, Thermomechanical Behaviour of Solids and Structures and Structural Dynamics etc.
-Contact Mechanics and Lubrification  EHD lubrication. Surface failure. Gear pitting and scuffing. Oil and grease rheology. Triboreactive materials. Lubricant condition monitoring. Rolling bearings fatigue. Lubricant condition monitoring. Reliability and maintainability (RAMS) of electro-mechanical equipments.
-Experimental Mechanics  Solid mechanics and Structures. Optical Methods. Holographic and Speckle Interferometry. Image Processing. Neural networks and fuzzy logic. NDT of Composites. Biomechanics. Automotive engineering.
-Fracture and Damage Mechanics  Fatigue. Mechanical behaviour of materials. Failure analysis.
-Vibrations and Dynamics of Structures  Rotordynamics. Passive and active vibration control. Experimental Modal Analysis. Structural non-linear Dynamics. Thermoelastic Vibrations.

Teaching methods and learning activities

Project and Seminars.

The Project will be attributed to the student in the beginning of the semester.
Some Seminars related to relevant issues in the domain of Mechanical Construction might be presented during the Semester.
