Objectives

This course complements the qualification of the students to digital and mixed systems (analogical and digital), integrating knowledge of project and testing. We will present the main methodologies to test and project testability, essential to the project and the production of (micro)electrical systems, with special emphasis on the norms defined by IEEE (namely the norms 1149.1 and 1149.4) and on the memories’ test (counting with the cooperation of Infineon Technologies, Portugal, S.A.).

Mandatory literature

Parker, Kenneth P.; The Boundary-Scan Handbook. ISBN: 0-7923-9270-1
American National Standards Institute; IEEE Standard test access port and boundary-scan architecture
Bushnell, Michael L.; Essentials of electronic testing for digital memory and mixed-signal VLSI circuits. ISBN: 0-7923-7991-8

Complementary Bibliography

Bateson, John; In-circuit testing. ISBN: 0-442-21284-4

Teaching methods and learning activities

This course is taught in a traditional way, based on a set of theoretical presentations, which are complemented with practical sessions that include laboratory assignments. Besides these theoretical-practical sessions, we privilege the connection with specific study cases, including the memories test, to which we count with the cooperation of the testing department of Infineon, in Mindelo.
